Wigglesworth Machinery: Trusted in the Machinery Business Since 1896
A four-generation legacy of precision, integrity, and excellence in machine tools.
A four-generation legacy of precision, integrity, and excellence in machine tools.

Albert Wesley Wigglesworth, known as “The Father of Machine Tool Rebuilding,” graduated from Cornell University as a mechanical engineer. He began with Hill-Clarke Machinery in Chicago in 1896, selling new machinery. Albert realized that an aged casting could dampen vibration better than a new casting. If he re-worked and replaced some parts, he could offer a machine that performed “like new” at a fraction of the cost. In 1917, he became President of Hill-Clarke and opened the first facility dedicated entirely to rebuilding machine tools — a concept that changed the industry forever.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Albert Gifford Wigglesworth founded Wigglesworth Machinery of Boston in 1928. He drove towards New England, stopping at every smokestack he could see, noting machinery needs and opportunities. The company evolved from trading used machines into a premier distributor of high-quality machine tools, earning a trusted name in the growing defense and manufacturing industries of the region.

A.G. Wigglesworth Jr., known as “Al” or “Giff Jr.,” guided the company through the challenges of global competition from the 1960’s to 2001. Focusing on reconditioned and rebuilt machinery, he maintained the family standard that every machine leaving their doors had to be “right.” His son, Albert Gifford Wigglesworth III, continues to lead Wigglesworth Machinery today — preserving a 130 year tradition of integrity, reliability, and trust in every piece of machinery sold.
From Albert Wesley Wigglesworth’s pioneering rebuilds to today’s precision solutions — four generations later, Wigglesworth Machinery continues to define quality and integrity in the machinery world.
